Prior to seeing the movie I read a very positive critique (which included the fact that it had won several international film awards) and so I had high expectations for Japon. What a disappointment! I was ready to leave the theater half way through. Hoping to find some redeeming quality I masoquistically stayed until the end. Had I stayed home watching the ceiling I was have been more inspired.

Apart from being slow and boring, there are too many holes in the script: Who was he? Why does he want to commit suicide? Why go to this little town in particular? There are many gratuitous scenes (hunter's at the beginning, children passing by in front of him, the woman's death) without purpose. Even the movie's title is never explained (at least in the movie "Brazil" it was related to the movie's theme song).
