Subject: One Virtue of Matt Modine in "The Blackout"
    Date: Jul 7, 2003
Sender: John L JordanPrevious | Next

Those who see nothing but gratuitous, self-serving, self-indulgent, self-destruction in "The Blackout" have probably never descended into the hellish waters of substance abuse. "The Blackout" is an accurate depiction of such a descent. It is a frightening, disturbing, unforgettable sight as portrayed by Matthew Modine and the fine supporting cast displayed in this movie. I can understand how (and why) people who have never seriously pursued the shadowy thrills to be found along the path of sex-and-drugs-and-rock-and-roll might be put off by the emotions and images captured by the Director of this film. You may not like it and you may not want to believe such things can happen in this world, but your disdain cannot change the facts of how (potentially) out of control a living Soul can be on its journey between the cradle and the grave. Matthew Modine did not flinch in his effort to lay it all on the line. The Director of "The Blackout" and the supporting cast followed Modine's lead into the always-beckoning heart of darkness that lurks in the heart and mind of every living Soul on planet Earth today. If it were not a fact, life on Earth would be different, wouldn't it?

    ta-ta for now ya'll
