Subject: Shiri - one hell of an interesting movie
    Date: Jun 29, 2003

Have watched this film 3 times in the last 36 hours and each time see something new in it. While the plot does have a few holes and sometimes tries to be 'all things to all people' the story moves along at a cracking pace. Some of the sequences move at such a frenetic pace that one really does have to see them again to get the full effect the director was after.

I agree with some of the other commentators above that Shiri could have done a bit less in the storyline area and focussed more on the 'thriller' components.

Action sequences are sometimes top flight while at others seem to loose their way. I am still mystified how 9 guys whith automatic weapons could not 'down' one guy with a pistol. While it may have some hidden significance to the writer/director, it certainly made me smile and think I was watching Spiderman or The Hulk rather than a realistic espionage yarn.

The key cast members do their jobs very well and, helped by a well written script, build the tension in their personal relationships up as the film heads to its inevitable end. For me, I was left speculating until almost the last moment as to what the 'outcome' would be.

This is the 4th outstanding Korean movie I have seen in the past 6 months and it says a lot about the health and development of that nation's film industy.Another great movie is 'Beonjijeompeureul hada'(Bungee Jumping of Their Own) an extraodinary study of human relationships with a wonderful twist in its tail. See it too if you can (10/10).

    For Shiri, for me 9/10.

Previous: Action korean movie | Next: Great movie.
