Yesterday I watched the movie for the second time, and then I noticed the scene where Diane has the audtion. There's bob the director who tells you exactly how to view the movie.
In my opinion David Lynch speeks through BOB what is going on.
-Bob, do you have anything you wish to say...
something to Betty before we begin?
-No... it's not a contest,
the two of them with themselves,
so don't play it for real...
until it gets real.
This is David Lynch telling you what is happening.
*The two of them with themselves:
Betty & Ruth are one and the same person. There are a lot of references to this.
-After Sex, look how the two faces of betty & ruth almost look like how they are one?
-Diane arriving at the party coming from the garden, nobody talks/looks at camilla except dianne.
Also look at what is being told:
Camilla:
Ah, perfect timing!
Welcome, Diane.
Director:
Ah, here she is...
look how he refers to SHE! And there are a lot more examples wich gives the same idea.

This is David Lynch telling you how to look at the movie:
*so don't play it for real... until it gets real.
If you look at the movie there are a lot of scene's wich look weird, or have weird things in it. And I don't mean the obvious scene's but the scene's that give you a weird gut feeling.
Remember when betty arrived at the airport, and those elderly people are TOO happy, like a bad American happy movie fammily. Because this scene wasn't played for real, it wasn't real!
You should look at all the scene's and find out if they are real. I think that in every scene there must be a clue telling you, if this is a real scene or not. (like the rrrrFFFFrrFF analyse).
Also there is the timing issue. I think in the Real scenes there must be some time-stamp mechanism (ashtray, cuffe cup, etc) in it, so that they could be sorted to get the "real" story line.
