it takes a certain type of person to appreciate solondz' work, and it's certainly not for everyone. albiet a little less twisted and entertaining than 'Happiness', he takes a more focused approach to critiquing the state of film. if you think this film is racist, sexist, and looking in disdain upon its characters, then you're exactly who he's making fun of! it's a poignant answer to every schmuck film critic that shouldn't have to be answered. and boy, does he rightfully dis 'american beauty'. of course, Mikey emerges as the voice of the filmmaker and the one who's going to make it. overall, the film is weighted down by solondz' critiquing of critics, which dilute the juicy taboo of his material, but i loved it anyway. devilish.
