I agree with the previous comment.
For a while there i thought the same thing about Gordon most like being an ex-patient.
The interesting thing about this film was that the maker touched on a topic most stay away from.
In reference to the person who made the comment about Hank being naked....they did say right at the begining of the film that there was a tank where hydro therapy took place and also the frontal labotomies ...maybe he gave the poor man the full monty!
I also had to add that in reference to "Simon"
I don't really think it was Simon that possesed Gordon...not in a "take him over sence"..i have given some basic study to the minds of the criminally insane ..and for the most part they all have there own perticular simon.
Geoffry Dahmer openly admitted that it was a voice that told him to kill and then he begged for forgiveness and admitted that he did as he was instructed out of fear of it.
I think that we all have a Simon inside us and that given the right circumstance it will be awakened...the difference between a killer and most of us is that we treat that voice with contempt and don't listen to it....we have the presence of mind to understand that it is not real.
That is what i believe "Simon" meant by the reference "I live in the weak and wounded"
Simply that being in a place where the essence of such a powerful force was in play (i.e Mary Hobbs for Gordon)and by BEING weak and wounded it is possible to wake up his own Simon.
Spend to long in the company of madness and become mad yourself .....that is one of the reasons they closed the old type asylums in the first place. However i went away and thought about this film after i watched it ...and so it would seem did most of you ..so hats off to the film makers..they made people think...that is what they must have set out to do..like it or hate it...mission accomplished...well done chaps !

Re: Most missed the point - finally!!!!! a brain!!
This ranks up there as one of my favorite horror movies ever. It kept me thinking the whole time trying to figure out the connection between the tapes and everyone else in the film. I loved how the director tied it all together in the end. Even though I guessed wrong. I thought that Gordon was a patient in the asylum before it was shutdown and then left to roam the streets after.
