I have been playing Jimi songs on guitar for many years, he was connected. The Berkley show? there was a movie on the Berkley show that had him dressed in blue milky licker clothes with bad camera work. The best part was the beginning showing him at sound check jamming with Mitch and Billy, that alone is worth the price for the film. If the Isle of wright show doesn't have "midnight lightning", then they need a hip guitar player to start working on the film before they put it out. It is one of the deepest blues Hendrix ever played(I'm calling long distance on a perfect saxaphone, my head is dizzy and shaking, good lord my whole soul is so tired and aching, feel like I got run over by public opinion and the past...) Now that gentleman, is Hendrix! The red house version on Isles of Wright is tired and drawn out and not his best at all of that song. I play several different versions note for note, and I use a couple of licks from that version but overall it's tired. The Hendrix step sister is very hip and cool and doing a great job, luvya baby!

    Disappointment

As a diehard Hendrix fan, I cannot wait to see the film of "Blue Wild Angel". However, I am disappointed that his stepsister and her band of power-brokers, in their wisdom, came to the decision to release the Isle of Wight concert rather than the far superior Berkeley concerts from 30th May. It is a fact that both of these scintillating shows were filmed, so I have no idea why the hell they still have not been released.

Reviewers on some websites I have looked at have said that at the Isle of Wight, Jimi was "at his peak". This is utter nonsense. On the Berkeley concerts, Hendrix WAS at his peak (by comparison, he was barely climbing out of a trough at the Isle of Wight, even though his troughs were far greater than most people's peaks).

The fact that Hendrix had spent virtually 24 hours a day during August - from the moment he had finished the Cry of Love tour - in Electric Lady Studios working ion "First Rays of the New Rising Sun", and was feeling tired and run down, shows through clearly in any footage I have ever seen of the Isle of Wight. At Berkeley, he was in supreme command of the guitar, and - to quote from the excellent biography, "Electric Gypsy" by Harry Shapiro and Caesar Glebbeek - the overall effect of Hendrix's guitar-playing, Cox's bass-playing, and Mitchell's drumming, was "symphonic".

I stress that I have not yet seen the latest Isle of Wight film, so I shall reserve any further comment. I am sure that it will be better than the Band of Gypsys film which, although containing some excellent material, was marred for me by the director's placing of a Lenny Kravitz interview over the legendary solo in Machine Gun.
