" Red ", and " Blue " ( and " White " ) are
components of a film trilogy by a Polish film
Director ( recently died ) who's name escapes
me at the moment. They deal, in part, with
reality " synchronicity ". The color useage,
here, might be referencial. Or not.
Editor's note: That director is the amazing Krzysztof Kieslowski, who also did "The Double Life of Veronique" and "The Decalogue."

Red VS. Blue....major color significance
Hello
I despised this movie at first glance, having watched it in a neive mindset that led to me not just absorb the movie for what it is. Everyone comes up with their own interpertation, so here is mine in full.
Opening scene, i read another posted comment on the beginning, the FFFFFFrrr thing. Works great!! Everyone happy and dancin around like hollywood fake and happy, then it ends with, in my mind, betty/diane falling asleep extremely upset from Rita/camilla broken relationship. Betty then begins to dream, and finds everything as she put it "in a dream world". Perfectly set up, Rita/camilla just finds her way to betty's aunts appartment, happens to get in the shower (betty's fantasy). Rita then needs betty's help (dependant; everything betty/diane would really want). Diner scene, 2 men swap places with where blonde and brunette are, camilla going towards the bum(death; also who controls the key). The men in the diner clue us into that the bum is "doing everything". Auditions, see how it is betty/diane that gets the roles? Aces them perfectly (not in the real world would it go that smoothly) Goes to audition for adam director who unfortuatly is commanded by the higher powers of la into picking camilla(brunettes lesbian lover at the end). takes rita to explore dianes appartment, finds dianes dead body(still fantasy). Ends up falling for betty. Perfect again.Wakes up "silencio"(creepy) Goes to club, all an illusion. Why does betty finally "realize" she has the box that will work for rita's key? Shakes violently(great fear or overwhelming sense of disorientation...Think aboput it.....singer.....dressed all in red(imortant; over-powering red), makes betty and camiulla cry, bond, together, crying=catharsis....singer drops dead music still plays...to me this sybolizes, diane/betty has a catharsis before she dies(the perfect dream she is currentlyu happening), then betty realizes she need to wake up, and everything turns blue. Betty teh goes for the box. (Remeber at the end with the hitman at the diner when he says, when its done, the key will be where i told you) Time to wake up diane....camilla opens box, get sucked into dianes mind maybe since diane/betty truly desires rita/camilla to want to be like her, desparation. Wakes up with cowboy sayin "time to wake up". Wakes up to knockin, heard again at the end with the elderly folk, and staggers to find the neighbor she switched appartment with. The ash tray and key tell us what is real in this flash back type memory in dianes subconcious. Truly, tormented by the events on Mulholland drive (the party where she is so not welcome), ends up alone empty and suicidal. The demons of hollywood, including the bum, end up driving her insane so she ends it. Ending up all white and happy.
To sum up, I belive betty/diane is really always diane dreaming of herself as betty, a made up girl whom everything works out for(representing her jeolousy for rita). camilla/rita doesnt really love diane(anymore) and is in love with adam. From this perspective check it out thinking always during the fantasies that diane is using people in the dream to represent people or things, even emotions in her real, tormented, empty reality. Truly the colors red and blue brought this out for me. Watch it payin close attention to where red and blue always correspond or clash with each other. Blue is more subtle, and the red is very intence. Plus the little man in the room i believe represents hollywoods stange controling factors. Everything, the swing of her hallusination, wraps around 1 small, cripped, old feeble man in a big suit, alone in a room, with guess what? red drapes and a smaller blue lamp. Ah ha! Chack it out that way, itll come out really twisted, not to say it was anyway. Plus, thanx for reading this fluff of jumbled thoughts and maddness.
