    Reader comments on Divine Intervention

Divine Intervention is not easy to watch. It is difficult to make sense of the characters and to connect the scenes, but that is the very brilliance of the film. It is a perfect depiction of the painful and ridiculous reality for Palestinians living in Israel and the West Bank. There is a constant feeling of discomfort and one of being "in limbo", waiting for something to happen but the climax is never climactic - a sardonic twist of the Palestinian reality. The movie, like the typical Palestinian, is defiant, unique, confident, at times irrational, and mired by a fantasy that is not likely to materliaze into reality anytime soon. As brilliant as this movie is, it was prohibited from an Academy Award nomination, for the ridiculous reason that Palestine is not yet a country, or maybe the movie was simply too bold and controversial for Hollywood's faint heart.
