Reader comments on The Syrian Bride

    Subject: the ending

Just watched the movie on SBS. Missed the begining. However, very unnerving in the end. Because of the casual allusions to shootings at the border on a couple of occasions in the film, I am guessing that the writer/director wanted us to be aware that that it was a real possiblity that the desperate bride, in a realm of cultural shame, would be willing to keep walking in her determined way and to do so after the guard shouts "stop". (I was waitng for the machine gun.) When Mona(?) walks away, in the other direction, her emotions change from foreboding to a self knowing half budda smile.
Perhaps the writer wants us to assume that she has been inspired by the bride to challege her husband. A trivial show of strength in comparison to the brides choice.
