Bonjour... un film vraiment fabuleux et émouvant

Hi all, My name is Jason and I am writing in from the Singapore in the Far-East... this film was what that got me started in visiting the Romantic City of Light Paris, France (and eastern + western europe as well). Very light-hearted and warming storyline on which watching it (together with the beautiful soundtrack) can really transport you to the perfect harmonious world of Amelie, and judging from the response of the previous comments, I can say most of us love this form of 'escape'. Frankly saying, because I owned the DVD, I've watched it several times and everytime I find new philosophical concepts about life (and strengthening my spoken French coz Parisians speak fast...)

Foreign films in Singapore are normally not publicized much, only those Hollywood blockbusters which I am getting sick of are, and Amelie really made a big change towards my impression of European Films. I chanced upon the DVD in a big mega store one day when they have a big poster of Amelie together with a stack pile of DVD at a much cheaper price. I later found that the cheaper price was due to a local DVD distributor bought the rights to translate the subtitles to chinese (and some other asian language), to cater to the crowd here in asia, since it wasn't manufactured overseas, they step down the price. Because at them time I was keen to see what the hype was about, I bought one copy and after I played it, was hooked... all in all, now I am sort of a 'collector' having got the DVD (mpeg2), VCD(mpeg1) and the soundtrack CD.

I visited Montmartre just last month and it had a lasting impression of me, coz that was really what I thought Paris would be and without this film, maybe it wouldn't have triggered me to visit that fantastic, vibrant and lively arrondissement (ok certain parts were touristy esp towards sacre-coeur) and there were sleazy areas as well. But no complains I loved that neighbourhood very much (+other arrondissements in paris as well)... so I feel a good film can really help to spread message about lifestyle of a place and this is good, coz for those ppl who never step outside asia (or lived in a faraway place), you can relieve the sights of a beutiful city i.e.paris, and at the same time being entertained by a nice fabulous fantasy... all in all a nice sweet film without much negative reviews... keep up the gd work!

    cheers all
    jason
