    Reader comments on High Tension

    Subject: internal logic

Loved HT and I hate all the american horror films the director is referencing. Why? The stylists. In American horror films the actors look like like actors, attacked as they are by an armada of competent sylists and aerobic coaches. In this film the girls looked like actual girls,so I couldn't distance myself in quite the same way, sitting back and laughing at the bimbos getting axed and making jokes about how they'd better give their agents more professional head if they want to stay in the next film more than three minutes. The young women, the funky farmhouse and even "the killer" looked believable enough to me that I was actually scared in spots.
As for the end, it brings up a good question. Does the writer have an obligation to adhere to an internal logic? I can think of several ways to have Maria still be the killer and not have her be in two places at once. She could have been describing what happened to a cop or a doctor etc..By violating real logic in a fictional format the author makes the audience furious. Why?
