I had a visceral reaction to "Nanny and Rose" when I first saw it over 20 years ago and have kept a copy of the print on my walls wherever I've lived ever since. I loved the intimacy of Prior's paintings of that era.
I find his current work arresting, if not disturbing. There's something about his technique, especially in the landscapes, that draws me deeply into and beyond what initially appears to be a snapshot. It feels more like perception than reality, but strangely more real. And mysteriously, very uncomfortable.
