I would have to agree that your take on the sequence is very plausible. The flashbacks to Gordon sitting in his van were very telling in retrospect. No matter how badly Gordan wants to go home it just doesn't exist anymore. Thanks for sharing your insight, because quite frankly I was lost in trying to piece it together.

I think I understand now..
I just saw this movie yesterday, and I have to admit that I was pretty pissed off at the ending.
However, now I finally think I have put the pieces together.
Here is what I think, and please correct me if I am wrong:
When Gordon was at the asylum initially trying to get the job, he saw the wheel chair and zoned out(he is possessed by Simon).
He got the job so he went home with roses to celebrate with his wife. He was fooling around with her when she nocked the hot water on him. Simon takes over. He kills her, and kills his baby. He was possessed by Simon because he was weak(completely stressed about the job)when he arrived at the asylum originally.
So he probably goes to the asylum to hide out after what he did, thats when he puts all of the pictures up. The pictures included all of the guys that show up for the job(they are included with pictures of his wife because they are like his family).
The guys show up and he begins to kill them all. Simon had Mary kill her family so now he has Gordon kill his.
Tell me what you think.
