Reader comments on Two Men Went to War

The movie "Two Men Went to War" was slightly inaccurate, in that it portrayed Sgt Peter King as being too old for active service. In fact he was 26 when he and Leslie Cuthbertson "invaded" France. After the incident, King was given a posting and won the Military Cross for actions in Holland. He emigrated to New Zealand after the war where he joined the army. During the Korean War (as a Captain), he won the DSO for courage under fire on Hill 335. (Check out the NZARMY website for Peter King and Derek Rixon). He became Chief Park Ranger in Westland National Park, NZ but was killed in a car accident in 1962. Ian Cuthbertson became a successful businessman and in 1967 was made Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He died in 1995.
I'm sorry his brother-in-law said he wouldn't have liked the movie as I thought it was a great "flag waving, Brits-at-their-best" tale to rank along side "Zulu" (which was also full of artistic licence). Without this film, this true British Bulldog exploit would have been consigned to the dustbin of history.(see also Bruneval Raid 1942)

Re: Two men went to war

From the text at the end of the film (which was shown today), I could make the following (unfortunately I cant go into details as I never noted the text down) :

One (or both went to Korea), one became major of Newcastle-upon-tyne (I think).
One died in 1995 and the other in a motorcycle accident in (I think) New Zealand.

Unfortunately I have found very little information on the internet about the two so I cant verify the above.
