    Reader comments on Grande Ecole

    Subject: True meaning?
    Date: Jul 3, 2007
    Sender: Louis John FPrevious

I have read a few reviews which tried to explain the message behind Grande Ecole and I must say that in my opinion they were just bad and overcritical.
i believe this movie talks about love-relationships and the insecurities that the sexual instincts of the one partner bring forward in the other partner.
The whole movie revolves around a bet between two "heterosexual" lovers, Paul and Agnes. Paul is in love with Agnes, of course, but he is bisexual, and feels sexual impulses for Louis-Arnaud, his roommate.
Agnes notices this and fears losing Paul, so she decides to take control of the situation and turn Paul's feelings for Louis-Arnaud into a game to see how far Paul can go. When in the end she is revealed by Paul that he actually did go all the way with Louis-Arnaud, Agnes feels unsafe in her relationship with Paul and asks if there is anything meaningful between them other than a mechanical instinct. She then replies that what binds them together and makes their bond meaningful is their complicity (and desire).
