I have to say l really enjoyed this film. I wouldn't quite put Bangkok dangerous in the wannabe Hollywood catagory, apart from the bursts of die hard gun toting action. Infact l would say there were moments in the film that were very European. Perhaps this was part of what Grady refered to as a mixture of a ' million styles' all melded together.

As for characters, l thought the general style of acting was quite natural ( though a touch naive at times )and lacked the usual contrivance of certain Hollywood films. Pawalit Mongkolpisit (Kong) was convincing as the deaf and mute assasin, despite certain suspect areas in the characters development. I would even go as far as saying that the actors made up for a patchy story and script. They utilized what they had to work with and l felt there was some integrity in this.

Culture. Grady said it not me. As with other Asian films there is a disparity between what consitutes the old, an acient culture, and the new - Hollywood, Western culture etc..Bangkok Dangerous demonstrated that uncertainty of expression within a strange, ecclectic mixture of Hollywood and elements of a film industry that is still finding it's feet.

I enjoyed this film for it's unusual blend of naivity and some beautiful moments in film, even though certain aspects were not wholly followed through. I don't really believe the directors were trying to turn the genre on it's head either, perhaps they were just trying to make a good film within the means available.

Who says they have to make a film exclusively from their own cultural perspective? I think that was a fairly insulting comment. Thai film students, directors, and the world over are exposed to Hollywood or American culture in one form or another, so why shouldn't they be allowed to explore it?
(I think the last part of this was directed at the author of the article, who gave an insulting review of a good film)
