I think it's because of the fact that life/reality has no soundtrack except for the ambiant noise of our surroundings. So why, when we tell stories with cinema, do we always need music to tell us how to feel? Hollywood has told us over the years that all good movies much have an epic score - romantic scenes should have romantic music - battle scenes should have battle music - triumphant scenes should have triumphant music etc. etc.
Films which do well in competitions (real competitions, not like academy awards) are usualy far more valid/skillfully made than the status quo of Hollywood films. They use the medium of film very effectively to create a narrative and do not need/want to overstate this narrative with unnesesary musical score.

    wax and bilingual movies

Can anybody explain to me why all the movies which win (or are nominated for) prizes in renewed festivals do not have soundtracks? I start feeling that all the alternative movies do ultimately follow a well defined template...
Anyway, I guess the most important thing I retain from this movie is that when you rent a Hummer and you scratch it badly, you need wax. I am going to try this at my very next rental, I promise.
My only comment is about the language: bilingual movies are most welcome, provided the actors speak the two languages. It's so annoying to hear wannabe french speakers raping such a beautiful language (and I am not French! just imagine how a French person would feel...).
