I completely agree with you -- did these people even see the same movie I did???? This has cracked my top 5! The Gordon saga and the "session tapes" were parallel storylines, right from the initial accidental injury (the broken doll and the pot of boiling water...hellooooo?). In other words, the tapes were vital to the story. How anyone can claim they were unrelated is beyond me.
As to Gordon going from a perfectly happy man to a psycho slasher...they made several references in the movie as to how Gordon is so good under pressure (i.e. he's about due for a release of everything he's been repressing for so long...ever hear of foreshadowing?) Add to that the pressures of a sick and constantly crying baby, as well as huge money problems (he needs the Danvers job or he has to fold the company) and I think he might have a little bit of stress, don't you? Anyway, no need to explain the movie to you -- YOU GOT IT! -- I just wanted to get it off my chest.
