    He keeps a strait face to get himself through it because it was so difficult in many ways, and more importantly, he made a promise to her and stuck by it. Remember that that part of HIS life was over as well. Hokie, yes, but look around; that's reality. I felt bad she lived a poor life but focus on her goals and the OUTCOME. Hurray for her! She knew the risks involved but also knew how much dreams meant to her. Asside from her life ending sooner, she got the best part of everything she ever wanted

    I agree. This movie was a little hoky. The main reason being Clint eastwood's acting. In the last scene, which was supposed to be an emotional one, Clint simply keeps a straight face while he kills Hilary. And its like that through out the whole movie, for it seems that Clint never shows any emotions or changes his facial expressions.
