The MH review at salon.com is very good. It explains the mob and the cowboy as Lynche's take on Hollywood control, and in the film, it represents Diane's frustration at not being able to land good acting roles. I think there is another level not explored yet. I propose that "Camilla" never existed, that Diane is beng jilted by her dark-haired ex-roomate and the Camilla role is another part of Diane's fantasy. In her fantasy, she is Betty and is fresh and talented in a way the real Diane is not. Even her teeth were whiter and straighter as "Betty" than as Diane. Likewise, the ex-roomate may have been the real lover she was losing (can there be another explanation for the roomate moving her things out of Diane's apartment?) and she gets idealized as "Camilla" in the dream. The whole "Camilla" murder is a fantasy, who doesn't dream of killing the person that leaves you? Maybe even the suicide is fantasy, once again the product of a heartbroken jilted lover.

Re: The meaning of Mulholland Drive
1- i agree with your interpretation, except that the blonde girl is not daydreaming. I think she is dreaming and in her dream it happens the way she would have liked it to be. 2- what did happen to the brunnette right after the accident (the detectives were wondering about a third person in the black car, so did she really walk away from the accident?) 3- what was the significance of the mob and the cowboy?
