The biblical references are indeed there in spades, and your theory about the movie being an allegorical representation of Exodus is as plausible as any. However, this was not a good movie. It's an over-ambitious, sprawling mess. Writer/director/producer Paul Anderson had what ultimatly amounts to a very simple idea about childhood, adulthood, the conflict between them and the redemtion that ideally should save them. Throw in a little "help" from God almighty, a bunch of bizarre incidents and coincidences, a over-stylized form, and every single idea even marginally related that went through his head and you have the rambling, undisciplined mess disguised as something deep and profound that was this movie.

    Frogs, Children : EXPLAINED!!!!

The whole film from beginning to finnish is a direct reference to and re-telling of the Exodus chapter in the bible. Through out the film if you look closely you will find the repeated use of the numbers 8 and 2. Looking even closer at some scenes will reveal the words "Exodus 8:2". Exodus 8:2 is the part of Exodus when Moses tells the Pharoah (symbolically played by Jason Robards) to let his people go, or he would unleash a plague of frogs upon the Pharoah's country. This symbolic signifigance (of Earl) is made clear when you find out that Earl Partrige was the game shows producer. None of peoples lives whould have changed if the game show had'nt had started. Earl is the direct cause of the peoples troubles, therefore the players in the cast are symbolic of the Pharoah's oppressed. When Earl dies, the plague of Frogs end and all of the oppressed find repemption.

The scene when Donnie Smith retreats to the bathroom in the bar, he quietly mutters a passage to himself from Exodus that is directly tied into the whole "Children/angels" speach. In Exodus, the children were amoung the oppressed, and not to give anything else away, I will tell you to read Exodus and you will be shocked at all of the direct references you will see from the film (i.e. The prophet, the pharoah, the children, the caretakers, etc.).

    Enjoy.
