I Was Spared
Fifty years ago, I struck a brown bear on the rump with a stick at Yellowstone. The bear spun around to face me and stood up. It was large. It stuck out it's paws and sneared like Elvis and made a gutteal growl. The snear may seem funny; it was not. I dropped the stick and awaited it's decission. Finally it decided that a six year old was not worth chastising. The bear dropped down and turned away. As it left it threw a pawfull of dirt at me. I have no doubt what that ment. I have always been thankful for it's kindness to a foolish kid.
