Session 9: A True To Form Horror Movie
Session 9 was an extremely well done movie. Movies like this one are the type of horror movies that define the genre. In my opinion horror movies that have anything to do with the insane or people losing their minds are the best. Jacob's Ladder is another movie, for those who haven't seen it, that explores the borders of reality and insanity or Soul Survivors which explores the borders between dreams and reality. Thirteen Ghosts also has some interesting commentary on the insane aspect. It is our biggest fear, the insane, those who can't be reasoned with, bribed, feel pity or mercy. It is very creepy. And to take place in a condemned asylum! Amazing to think of the history of that place and what went on there. If walls could only talk.
I rented the DVD because I like to watch the deleted scenes and I am very happy that the editors of the film took out all of the parts with the creepy homeless women. If anything in the film took away from it those scenes did. You thought the ending was bad? How about if Gordon dies by getting clubbed over the head by a creepy old women after talking on his broken phone?? The ending the editors chose to use was very satisfying, to leave us with the thought that Gordon is now out of his mind and alive to deal with that in that bloody room with the pictures. Including the homeless women just created two evil entities in the movie and the ones in your mind (Simon) are definitely more effective.
