You are right. It was slow, but watching a refrigerator defrost? I don't think so.

This movie captures social science research perfectly. The pitfalls of positivism in social rssearch. Issues of class, "going-native," effect of researcher on subject, isolation, observed observing back, the concept of the other, etc. Anyone whose been in the Peace Corps or Vista, an exchange student or a social science researcer will recognize the experience.

I found the film wonderful, sweet, and clever at the same time. But I'm sure it's not for everyone. It doesn't flow like a reality show because it isn't one, first, but secondly, the so-called "reality" shows are maniputlated, set up, stocked with unstable characters, edited and meant to be provoking, salacious, and shocking.
