Quite a visually and emotionally packed film! Hurrah! After visiting Galicia the last three years I must say this illuminated themes from that rich region. The Church and State are subtly counterpoised against Nature, symbols of the region's Celtic pre-Roman past, on the eve of the Civil War. Stunning acting by the boy playing Moncho, as well as the veteran actor playing Don Gregorio. As a teacher I could identify readily with Gregorio and his battle against obscurantism, ignorance, and fascism. I highly recommend this film.
